This is my Dreamcast Retrospective where I remember the system itself and the games released for it. I first heard about the Dreamcast when it was first announced for Japan by reading gaming news sites in 1998. At the time, Sega’s official site was bare, with only an online forum where people could post and meet other Sega fans. I signed up in 1998 and read threads of people saying how fantastic the Dreamcast would be and everyone couldn’t wait for the US release.
The Shenmue III Announcement
I was at work when I read the greatest news on my phone today. I read that Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, announced on stage at the Sony conference that Shenmue III is ready to be made if gamers are ready to contribute. The game will be funded by gamers through KickStarter and be available on PS4 and PC.
“Shenmue” for the Sega Dreamcast is a game that not many people had the chance to play when it was originally released. I am a part of that group that considers Shenmue an amazing experience and cult classic. Unfortunately, it debuted in the year 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast, a system that wasn’t able to compete with the Playstation 2. I want to talk about why I consider it a truly immersive game that had a profound effect on how I viewed video games and Japan.
