The Keepa browser extension helps instantly nab deals

With the Keepa browser extension, you can track prices on any Amazon site as well as see when prices were the cheapest. As someone that uses Amazon often, this extension is either going to save you money or end up costing you more because of seeing all the deals. Let’s see how it works.

Background Info on the Keepa browser extension

I couldn’t find much on the developer(s), but Keepa is developed in Germany and first launched in 2011. The Keepa browser extension is available for Firefox, Chrome (works in Brave/Opera/Vivaldi), and even the soon-to-be-retired Microsoft Edge browser.

Keepa supports all Amazon

I live in Japan, so I am always missing out on useful sites and utilities for Amazon, mostly because many extenions are exclusive to North America (US/Canada). Imagine my surprise when I found out that Keepa supports everything. Amazon Japan, India, Canada, etc.

How the keepa browser extension works

Once you have the Keepa extension installed, you head on over to any Amazon page, and extra data will appear underneath the product photo. In the screenshot, I am taking a look at the Kindle Paperwhite on Amazon Japan. You can see where for a while the price was a steady 14,000 yen (about $140). However, when the new year happened, the price went way down to about $91. That would be a pretty big decrease and a potential deal if I were in the market for a kindle.

Amazon Price Tracking

I don’t want to get burned by buying something at a certain price, and then it gets discounted the next few days or months. Wouldn’t it be nice if I could have someone watching the price for me? That’s where Keepa comes in.

On the page of the item you want to watch, click the track product tab. From here, you can choose how long you want to track (weeks, months, a year), whether or not to watch prices from third-party sellers, or the price of the item used.

I like the option of choosing the degree of the price decrease. Sometimes Amazon likes to lower prices slightly, but not enough to make you care. In tracking, you can adjust when to be notified if it’s any drop, a 10% drop, or a 20% drop.

Notification options

The Keepa browser extension will notify you when price drops happen, but did you know that you can have it send it through email, Telegram, RSS, or even Facebook? All of these notification methods can be done without needing to register for an account.

Deals

Maybe you’re not watching anything specific but want to be on the lookout for deals.

If you click the Keepa browser extension icon in the extension bar, click the deals where you can filter by categories. In the screenshot, I have the camera & electronics section filter on, where I can see items that have had a drastic price decrease within the day, the past few days, or the past week.

Final Thoughts on Keepa browser extension

I have seen many different shopping comparison extensions come and go, but I’ve never tried any of them because I always felt they were fishy. However, with Keepa, it only works with Amazon sites and the extension (at least the Chrome one) is designed to only look at Amazon and not try to track you all across the web.

After having tried the Keepa browser extension and exploring its options, I can say that this is staying installed on my home machines for price checking and tracking on Amazon. There have been so many times I needed this and I can’t believe I didn’t use this sooner. I’ve already got it set to watch quite a few items for those sudden flash sales that Amazon likes to throw when I’m busy out somewhere.
